Twenty years ago, working as a patent attorney, I began to study tax laws and legal structures for building and protecting wealth. Gradually, asset protection and estate planning became the focus of my law practice. It became clear, however, that providing informed and reliable service to clients required a thorough understanding of life insurance and annuity products, as well as financial planning techniques and investment vehicles. Now, as a licensed life insurance and annuity producer, I provide advice and planning to individuals, families and businesses covering the full range of insurance products in the marketplace.

There was an adage that life insurance protects against dying too young, and annuities protect against dying too old. These days, insurance products are more complicated than that, and they are also a lot better.
Currently, a life insurance can provide not only a death benefit upon the death of the insured, but also numerous “living benefits” during the life of the policy, such as tax-free retirement income, chronic illness benefits and long-term care. An annuity typically is still used to provide a guaranteed income, but can also include some relatively new features, such as guaranteed return of premium, a death benefit, and chronic illness and long-term care benefits. Significantly, many modern life insurance and annuity policies can be pegged to one or more market indices, enabling the investor to benefit (indirectly) in market gains, but also be protected against market downturns. In other words, a policy’s account value does not go backward in a down market, protecting principal.

Shoreview Insurance recommends an insurance policy only if it believes it is in the client’s best interest. That means collecting the information necessary to determine a client’s assets, needs and goals, and then using that information to recommend the financial structures, investment products and services best-suited to satisfy those needs and goals.
Depending on a client’s unique circumstances, an insurance product might not be the best solution. If that is the case, I will tell you that.
Depending on assumptions made when projecting future performance of a product, the best available policy might not be the one that initially looks good on paper. Shoreview Insurance uses the knowledge and experience of its team to create efficient and robust insurance solutions, designed to endure unfavorable economic conditions.
Unfortunately, some insurance advisers recommend insurance products to maximize commissions.
Also, some insurance producers are “captive”, that is, they are agents (employees) of a company that allows them to present and to sell to customers only the insurance products (e.g., life insurance and annuity policies) offered by the company.
In contrast, as an independent insurance broker, I have the freedom and motivation to identify and to offer the best available insurance advice, products and services to my clients.
